How can you record a voice memo on Apple itouch?

My iPod touch came with voice memo app but when I try to record it says to attach a mic how do I do that?|||You have to buy the apple head phones with the mic (sold seperately)|||yeah you have to get a microphone for your iPod touch :( I've tried to record too but no you need a microphone
