Do you have to include a memo when writing out a check?

i'm writing a check for sporting event tickets. is it necessary to write in a memo? what would i write?|||Unless you write something on there for bookkeeping purposes, it's best to leave it blank. It may look suspicious to some people if something is written there.|||No, it's usually for you so you know what the check was for, or if there was an issue, to show what you were intending the money for so it isn't claimed as a gift or anything. Put 'tickets' if you're worried.|||I don't think you need do more than write the cheque and fill in the stub so that you know how much the cheque was for, who you paid it to, and the date, when you want to reconcile your bank statement.|||no, its for you to know what you wrote the check for.
