Just received a memo from the school regarding the speech?

"Any student that does not wish to see the speech. Needs to see a school counselor."

Why would that be necessary?|||Why does it matter, why all of the sudden when this president wants to talk to the youth to encourage them to stay in school, everybody wants to boycott the frickin speech? Nobody even knows what he's going to say, they're just making a big hogwash out of nothing! If President Bush, had've wanted to speak to the children, nobody would've had a problem, furthermore, he could've cared less about the kids or anything else besides that war going on, for his own personal reasons. But because it's this president, then everybody wants to hold a protest. Too much energy being focused on stupid stuff, instead of taking this same energy and trying to find missing children or something of that nature.

To Texas Mommy, The president isn't even talking about politics, he's already the frickin president!!!! Persuasion of what? You don't even make sense. As if kids were old enough to vote. He is talking about school!!!|||Wow. So now if your child does not wish to listen to the speech or their parents opt for them not to hear the speech they are "mentally ill"?

And people say that we have no reason to be upset about a politician talking to our kids.

Why are people STILL so blind to see how the government is forcing their way into the classroom and forcing kids to hear only one side of the politics?

This is exactly why I am a cautious parent and not a parent that follows blindly into what everyone else is doing with their kids.

Oh and for the person who said "If George Bush had wanted to address the kids in schools, nobody would have had a problem with it"..... Honey, what continent are you on? A good majority of Democrats would have been just as upset as most Republicans are about Obama speaking to our kids.

Why? Because they are politicians. They all lie through their teeth.|||Because everyone is throwing a tantrum about seeing the speech so they are giving the parents the option to not have their child involved. The person handling the viewing is probably the school counselor so he would be the one to inform that you are offended by the fact the president wants to offer words of encouragement to your child.

*Not using "you" directed at you, just "you" generally.|||It means, see the school counselor so they can find other arrangements because the rest of the school will be watching.

I wouldn鈥檛 read too much into it. They鈥檒l probably all be grouped into another room (like a study hall) while the speech is taking place.

** ADD **

If you鈥檙e stressing about it, then call the school and find out yourself.

Or before anyone jumps to conclusions you could CALL the school and ask what the letter is about. Overreact much? Don't jump the gun until you speak with the school...|||Some parents don't want their kids watching the speech. If you don't want to see it they will give you some thing else to do. But I really don't think that speech is going to kill anyone.|||This is a question from a question, but what exactly is 'the speech?' I'm not familiar with (American?) education systems... (Not trying to be ignorant, just curious!) x|||Send your child to a school where they know how to construct complete sentences. "Needs to see a school counselor."

"Any student that does not wish to see the speech."|||lmao@ that wording. Yes, I agree that they are seeing the school counselor in order to be arraigned in another room during the speech.|||I think the more important message will come from hearing it versus seeing it - if they didnt want to see it, why not close their eyes.|||They will be tied up and forced to watch it.

Or maybe they will just be grouped together and do something else while the school is watching lol|||Maybe to arrange some other type of activity for the child to do while everyone else is watching?|||What speech?
